2010 BMW 550i

You’ll hear a lot of superlatives when reading write-ups of the BMW 5-Series. It seems like it’s always been that way. This big, confident sports sedan is all-new for 2010, and like its predecessors, BMW has hit upon just the right combination of agility, power and responsiveness to push the buttons of driving enthusiasts worldwide.
That said, I am an enthusiast myself, and buttons are the biggest problem with the new 5-Series. Despite a sexier design, powerful, high-tech engines and better-than-ever driving dynamics, the 550i very nearly spoils the ride by getting too caught up in its own clever technology. More >
2004 Lincoln LS V8

Semi-annual drive events are a good opportunity for auto writers to drive a number of new cars back to back. They’re also not unlike high school dances, as everyone scrambles for a chance at the latest Mercedes, Maserati, or Jaguar. At a recent such event, I decided to take a break from elbowing my way into the line for the debutantes, and found a 2004 Lincoln LS siting practically forgotten at the back of the lot. No one had driven it all day.

2005 Cadillac CTS-V

Cadillac’s CTS was introduced as part of the luxury brand’s charge back to the circle of the automotive elite. The CTS plugged a sporty gap in the lineup, offering an American challenger to sport-luxury sedans from BMW and Audi. And just in case you have trouble taking the notion of a hot-rod Cadillac seriously, the CTS is going racing. As the summer begins, the CTS-V race car is already mixing it up against BMWs, Dodges, Fords and Porsches in the Speed World Challenge series. More >
