Now that I wasn’t working at Ford any more, I was happy to replace Modesty with a Ford product, specifically this manual transmission-equipped Escort wagon you see here. The Escort GT wheels came later, after the 1.8 liter DOHC engine from an Escort GT was swapped in, at great cost and struggle.
An important lesson was learned with Snapdragon. The engine swap turned the dull, mild-mannered but reliable Escort into an extremely entertaining, unique, wicked-fast and somewhat unreliable sport wagon with an attitude. The air conditioning never worked again. Nor did the engine’s cooling fan; they had to be wired up manually.
I didn’t care, though. The thing was fun. An important lesson indeed.
